DO YOUR DUTY WITHOUT
ANTICIPATING RESULTS
Why should scriptural texts want us to associate ourselves with
men possessing saintly traits? Apart from inculcating in us a sense of
discipline and moulding our character, they will plead with us not to expect
any reward for service to humanity. They themselves are engaged in divine
service without any thought of returns. They might have been deprived of
something precious in life but they will continue to discharge their
obligations. This admirable trait of selfless service makes them great.
They know that this
life, the body and material benefits are transient. They never entertain any
worldly desire and will therefore not grieve when they face problems. If one’s
hopes and expectations are high and if one fails to achieve them, one will feel
sad. Saints will teach us to do our duties without counting on the results and
explain to us that God’s grace will be showered on us when we become eligible
to receive them.

3. SAI IN DREAMS:
http://www.ettitudemedia.com
These are the dream sequences and messages as received
by SaiBaNiSa Ji From our beloved GURU LORD SAINATH OF SHIRIDI. In Anticipation
that this feature will help in one's spiritual growth are hereby compiled from his personal
Diary and presented to SAIBANDHUS.
Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY.
SEPTEMBER-1994:
05-09-1994
Today, before going to bed, I requested Sai to throw some light
on the Worldly bonds. He has put me on the right path with the following
incident. He has shown me the past lives of three of my old colleagues.
One person completed all his obligations towards his children
after the death of his wife. Later he got remarried only to get himself
entangled more deeper into the life cycle again at not
so a proper age.
Another person totally ignored his responsibilities towards his
wife and children, set up a second family at the same time and got deeper into
the daily scores of life.
The last person completed all his moral and social obligations
and reached the old age. However he is also bitten with a desire for more money
and got deeper in to the process of money making.
I was advised to complete
all the responsibilities of life at the earliest and come out of the vicious
cycle.
How we live makes the quality of life.
11-09-1994
Today my thoughts were centered on, who in life are the real
life partners?
I was traveling by a train fully packed and knew none. Everybody
was looking eagerly for his or her destinations (station) to come and alight
from the train. None had the mannerism to exchange a good word before getting
down even though they were all engaged in futile talk all through. This
particular thought was more painful to me. At the corner of the coach, I
Spotted an old man fully clad in Baba’s attire. May be He could pierce through
my mind and understood the thoughts reeling in my mind. He said to me –
There is nothing like co-traveler in this train. Everybody
boarded the train all alone, to mingle with the people for some time and get
down once their station is reached. I have been traveling in this train for
lakhs of years. If you have faith in me, befriend me and I shall stand by you
and take you to the destination. I got awake only to find myself lying on the
bed.
We came alone to go alone.
13-09-1994
My mind was pr-occupied with thoughts concerning wisdom,
detachment from the materialistic World etc. I prayed Baba to throw some light
on this perspective.
In essence Baba said that Ups and downs in life are an outcome
of our own deeds and non-adherence to the basic principles of life. So it is
essential to have good character and control our deeds. No one else can be held
responsible for our miseries except we ourselves
We can buy oranges from the fruit seller (SAI), We may also ask HIM to peal off the skin and give us. However, it is wiser to note that it is we,
who have to eat it for the benefits to be derived.
Our life is like living in a seven- storied building. The first
six levels are symbolic with the six evils (Arishadvarghas-Kama, krodha, moha
lobha, madha, mascharya)’s associated with our lives. The seventh level i.e.
Head with the seven openings is nearer to and is gateway to the Lord. SAI is
the carrier (lift) to take us to the seventh level while the wife, children and
the attachments exercising downward pull to see that we continue swirling in
the mesh of the first six floors like one up, two down. Realization and desire
to overcome this push and pulls and reach the topmost level, itself the key to
wisdom (Viveka).
Sow good seeds to reap rich harvest.

4. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S
PHILOSOPHY:
(By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao)
"Shashi": shashi_31@yahoo.com
24. Elucidation of Real Nature (Prakruti)
Along with
egoism, desire and knowledge are due to nature. Mind also works according to
one's own nature. This itself is called Selfish-action.
So action suppresses and cancels nature-for all three, one's own nature is
responsible. As a result, these actions issue out. Actions of Satwa Guna are
good actions, and those of Rajas Guna are medium and the actions associated
with Tamas Guna are bad actions. As long as one imagines that pleasures and
pains are true, nature will be issuing them eternally. Nature with the help of
its qualities, make the man dance to its tunes. The name of nature is
'Gunamayi' and this is the cause of all diversified activities. This is also
called 'Divyamaya'. The origin of the sound is due to nature. Art, education,
desire, knowledge, action and many such emanate from nature only. This nature
has got wonderful attractive power. Due to diversified powers of nature, the
persons with pure fixed mind are caught in snares and become unsteady and
wavery. Even the man observing celibacy gets contact with women and falls down.
Understanding well that the Maya is of Nature of Trigunatmika Sristi, if one
does actions ordained to him with unattached outlook, he will not be soiled by
the results of action. So do Atma-Anatma, Vichara and the process of Divine
knowledge. With the help of Tri-Gunas whichever Gunas the nature plays, Atma as
a central efflugent light will not allow the effects of darkness of
bad-actions.
Prakrit is the
basis. It is meant to give liberation. So put an end to worldly activities of
selfish nature and concentrate your mind on God with utmost faith.
'Sarwam Khalvidam Brahma'
Such constant
remembrance culminates in crowning success of Self-realization

6. SAIBANISA OFFERS
PRANAMS TO “LORD SIVA”
On this holy pilgrimage of the JyotirLingas of Lord Shankara,
the last one, with out which the pilgrimage will not be considered as complete,
is the twelfth JyotirLinga, of Grishneshwar.
About 30 km towards the west side of
This was originally a settlement of the Naga tribes. The place
of the Nagas is Bambi, which is known as “Varul” in Marathi “Varul” gradually
changed into “Verul” and is known by this name only. River Yelaganga flows
here. The name “Verul” is derived from Yelaganga, on whose banks the village is
located. There was a king by the name “Yela” here. The capital of his kingdom
was Yelapar, or Yelur or Verul.
Sthala purana of Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga
Once the king went hunting. While hunting, the king killed the
animals living with the Rishis and munis too. Seeing this, the irate Saints
cursed the king, as a result of which, his entire body was infested with
insects.
Now, smitten by this curse, the king began to wander in the
forest. His throat was parched because he was very thirsty. There was, alas, no
water to be found anywhere. At last he found a water hole made by the hooves of
a horse. Just as the king started to drink water a miracle occurred. The king’s
body was rid of all the insects. The king did severe penance (Tapa) there. Lord
Brahma was pleased and appeared before him and installed Parashta Teerth there.
He also created a huge and holy lake near by.
This Brahma sarovar later came to be known as Shivalay.
Once Shiva and Parvati were playing
chess on
This forest came to be known as Kamyakavana. Lord Mahesha
forbade crows from entering the area of Maheshamouli or Bhainsmal. One day,
Paravti was very thirsty. Shankara pierced earth with his trident and got the
water of Bhogavati from the Patal (Nether world). This is the Shivalay.
The Shivalay expands a little ahead where Shivanadi (Shivanand)
meets it and a little more further, Yelaganga also
flows just near it. When Shiva and Parvati were staying here pleasantly, a
hunter by the name Sudhanwa came there looking for a prey. A miracle happened
and Sudhanwa turned into a woman. At this he did a severe Tapa there. Shankara
was pleased and appeared. Actually, Sudhanwa was a woman by birth in his
previous life. Thus, Shankara from that very curse of becoming a woman turned
Sudhanwa into Yelaganga river. Thus, Punya Sarita
Yelaganga was born in the Kamyawana. Later, it was to become the bathing place
called Dhara Teerth or ‘Sita’s Snangriha’ and flow from a higher place and goes
through Verul village.
Once Parvati, was about to fill her hair parting with vermillion
and saffron, in Kamyavana. She kept them in her left palm and mixed the water
of Shivalay in it. With the right thumb she started mixing them both. Then a
miracle occurred, vermillion turned into a ShivaLinga and a great light
appeared in it. Parvati was awe struck at this. Then Lord Shankara said: “This
Linga was hidden in the Patala.” And removed it with his
trident.

DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES:
"Eden Cove" edencove@hotmail.com
Sat, 05 Aug 2006 01:29:14 +0000
Dear Sai Bhaktas
My pranaams to you
all. I have gone thru' the site and full of bliss,
tears roll down my cheeks. I have been
to Shirdi in the year 1975 and may be in the Lendi Baugh, I am Indira Bhagwatee
Mulliah, from
That time also, I could not grasp who He
was.... and then He told me to bend down and he started blowing mantras in
Urdu, Hindi and broken English over my head. He was just dressed as Shirdi Baba
in white and his head was tied up with a white material.
.
I
then forced Him, of course not knowing who He was to take a coca cola drink
with me, but He refused ... and then I dragged him by his hand to take one with
me , Finally, he took the bottle, and while I was talking to others nearby, He
vanished.... I’m dead sure, it was Shirdi Baba, for when I came back to my
country , I read a book 'The incredible Sai Baba" by Arthur Osborne and its written on the 1st
page that He Greets His Devotees As A Long Lost Child. OH My God, I wish I
could renew this extraordinary Experience...But people say that it happens only
once in a life time only.
It all happened in Andheri, Mumbai, when Sri Sathya Sai Baba was coming
for the Inauguration of the Shanmukhananda Hall. While we were all waiting for Baba to come to
the dias, this incident happened. Ever since, I have kept Him with me in my
pure little heart. He only purified my
heart and hence stays there.
That was only part of an experience with
Shirdi Baba.
Yours in His Service.

SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA
Swamy swamymain@yahoo.com
Date: 8/15/2006 06:57:15 -0700
Sai Ram. Let us continue with the
spiritual gems from the 20th chapter.
We were discussing an important sentence
from the ethics of Isa Upanishad given at the end of the chapter. For the sake
of continuity, let us start with the last sentence of last issue. Sai Ram.
"In fact, we are fittingly taught
here a lesson of contentment with one's own lot in the belief that whatever
happens, it is divinely ordained and it is hence good for us." What is
being conveyed is that one should submit one's ego to Isa, the Universal Self.
Selfishness is the problem, since
actions arising out of selfishness lead to karma. It is like a ball being thrown
at a hard surface or light being shown on a good mirror. The ball rebounds and
the light reflects. It is like the seed being sown in a fertile soil and watered
regularly. The plant takes good roots and grows into a big tree and gives
fruits. The irony is that pleasure leads to pain! It is the Universal Law that
everything in the Universe is balanced. So, an act done in selfishness is bound
to result in grief.
On the other hand, if one accepts events
in life with a sense of contentment and with the conviction that it is the
divine will, the action ends there and there will be no reaction. Action done without
desire for the fruits of action (nishkama karma) is not karma. This is what
Lord Krishna tells Sri Arjuna in Gita. Thus Isa Upanishad tells the same truths
that are later expanded in Upanishads, Brahma Sutras and Gita. Sai Ram.
"Another moral advice is, that man must spend his life-time always in doing
action, specially the karmas enjoined in the Shastras, in a mood of believing resignation
to His will. Inactivity, according to this Upanishad, would be the canker of
the soul."
Sai Ram. It is impossible for any living
being to remain without doing karma. The very act of living requires one to
cause distress to other living beings. The concept of Pancha Soonas has already
been explained in Sai Satcharitra, Chapter 9. So, as long as one is living, it
is necessary to do good karmas, so that the sins accumulated due to the
inevitable performance of bad karmas are balanced. If not, the sins will
inevitably wipe off one's accumulation of punya from the previous births (which
has given the human birth) and the soul has to take birth in non-human forms
and work out the sins.
Sai Ram. We will continue with this
chapter in the coming issues too. Sai Ram.

SAI WITH CHILDREN:
http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg
Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar,
Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use to play with children
and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be
entertained with good stories. For the last two years I have told you about
Lord Krishna's Leelas and Lord Rama Story. Now I want to tell the stories what
heard in my child hood.
THE
FOOLISH SCHOLARS:
Once upon a time there lived four friends in a
town. Their friendship was very deep. They always stuck together. Of them three
were great scholars. They had read almost everything. But though they had
acquired much knowledge, they lacked practical wisdom. As opposed to them, the
fourth friend was not as learned but was full of common sense and practical
wisdom.
One day they were all talking about how
to make use of their knowledge to earn money and lead a happy life. The first
scholar suggested that they should travel to far off lands to learn about other
people's lives. This might lead them to some king or rich man whose favor could
make them all rich. So they all agreed to travel.
Once again the first scholar said,
"We three are well versed in knowledge and we shall certainly do well.
What about this fourth friend of ours? He knows nothing. He will always be a
burden on us."
The second scholar agreed with this and
suggested that he should be left behind.
But the third scholar did not agree. He
said, "This will not be right. He is our child-hood friend. We can not
leave him behind". So finally they all started on their long journey. Traveling
a long time they at last reached a dense forest. At one place they saw the
bones of some wild animal lying scattered. One of the scholars said,
"Friends, do you see the remains of some animal here? This is an opportunity
to test our knowledge. Come; let us make this animal alive once again."
"I can prepare the full skeleton of
the animal from these bones" cried the first scholar.
"I can give flesh, blood and skin
to that skeleton" said the second scholar. They both proceeded to do as
they had claimed.
Now it is the turn of the third scholar.
He said, "I can give life to this lifeless form," and got ready to do
so.
Just then, the fourth friend cried out,
"Wait, go no further. Don't you see this is a lion?"
The third scholar was much annoyed at
this. He said with contempt, Fool, you can not stop me from proving my
knowledge. I will certainly make him alive."
"All right, go ahead if you can not
listen to common sense. But wait for a second so that I might climb the
tree." Saying this, the fourth friend climbed a tall tree near by.
Just then the third scholar infused life
in that animal. It was a ferocious lion. The moment he saw the three men
standing before him, with a terrible roar, he pounced on them and killed all
three.
When the lion had devoured all the three
learned scholars, he went away into the forest. Now the fourth friend got down
from the tree. Grieving for his three unwise scholar friends he returned to his
home.
Bye children meet you in the next issue

10. ARTICLES FROM SAI DEVOTEES:
"Sankaraiah Dubagunta" sainama@yahoo.com
Sri
Sai Satyavrata Pooja
Baba declared "I do not need any
paraphermalia of worship either eight fold or sixteen
fold. I rest there where there is full devotion.”At the same time He does good to his friend’s i.e who surrendered themselves to him
and who remember him with unchanging faith.
It was in the year 1909 one Bhimaji
patil of
Doctor's Doctor Sainath gave treatment
through the dreams. In the first dream Bhimaji was punished by the school
teacher for not reciting poetry lesson. In the second dream someone caused him
& intense pain and torture by rolling stone up and down over his chest.
With the pain he suffered in the above two dreams, Sai’s treatment was over and
he went home. As a memory of this happy event Sri Bhimaji started Sri Sai Satya
vrata pooja instead of Satya Narayana vrata pooja in his house.
Shri Syama Rao jayakar who was taken to
Shirdi by M.V.Pradhan for painting life like picture in oil painting was the
painter of famous "Dwarakamai" photo. He narrates that one day one
Mr.Varde sought Baba's permission for performing"Satyanarayana"
vrata. He brought a small plantain plants and set them on both sides of Baba, to
make a pandal and tried to use Baba himself for the God Lakshmi Narayana or
Satyanarayana. Though Baba refused, He was ultimately persuaded to accept. Thus
Baba himself played the role of Satyanarayana.
Now let us try to analyze and understand
what lessons Sai taught us through Bhimaji Patil. One suffers according to
one's previous evil karma. But a divine Sainath could save one from the effect of
evil karma by making one to suffer as Bhimaji had undergone through dreams. One
should be grateful to the lord for interfering and relieving us from evil
effects. By playing the role of "Satyanarayana"Sai confirmed He is
divine and no difference between him and lord Narayana.

Spiritual
Goals
Aum Sai Sri Sai Jaya Jaya Sai
Every day you awake is another chance to
give thanks and praise for all the blessings you have. Remember today to think
about your spiritual goals for the day, for they are the most important goals you
will ever have. Without spiritual goals, all other goals are meaningless.
You can have material goals in your
life, but have some spiritual goals as well; they will give more meaning to
your life. Spiritual goals will ultimately lead you to remembering your Spirit.
At the end of the day, give thanks
again…..you will feel satisfied that you have made another step closer to what
you were put on this earth for, and that is to move closer to Sri Sai Baba,
through your spiritual goals.
